GETTING THERE | OPEN. CEREMONY | THE RUN | BIG HEADS | SEGOVIA | MADRID | |
The year was 1998 and the festival was that of Sanfermines, a weeklong celebration honoring the patron saint of Pamplona, Spain, San Fermin. It is better known for the Running of the Bulls, made famous by Ernest Hemingway's novel The Sun Also Rises, written in 1926. This is an account of my adventure in Pamplona, running with the bulls, and of sidetrips taken to Segovia and Madrid. I went with my friend Tony and met up with a veteran of the bull runs, Gerry
Monigan, a writer for Newsday. |
