This is my first-hand experience on taking a volunteer vacation. The place I had chosen was La Sabranenque in Saint Victor la Coste, which is just west of Avignon, Provence in France. La Sabranenque contributes to the restoration of sites often dating to Medieval times. In Saint Victor la Coste, participants live in the beautiful old village that La Sabranenque has restored.

The experience as a whole had turned out better than I could have imagined. The village, along a cobble-stoned path on the side of a hill, was perched above the newer town below. It was a beautiful place to stay. You felt that you belonged to part of a community, mainly because of the people involved. The volunteers, mostly from the States, had bonded very well with each and the staff had made us feel like family.
